I started Kaelyndra’s journals to understand one dragon better.
They gave me the history of the entire world.
The dragons existed before Hominiform. No human bodies. No sexual organs. No experience of pleasure, vulnerability, or love. They reproduced through eggs and dragonfire. They fought over Lumen nodes. Power shaped everything.
Then they gave themselves bodies that could feel.
Imagine being one of the first creatures in your species to discover desire.
The journals let me write that beginning. The first transformations. The first women. The first males. The training. The Table. The Skyboxes. The first attempt to build consent into law.
To write them, I had to enter the minds of ancient creatures discovering touch, hunger, devotion, and love for the first time.
That is part of why we read stories like this. We get to inhabit lives we could never live and see the world through desires, bodies, and choices far outside our own.
The journals did everything I hoped they would. They gave the rest of Breath, Blood & Chain more weight. They brought the prequel series into focus.
Now the dragons, the Lumen Lines, the old laws, the Paladin Order, and the lies everyone inherited all connect.
The world finally feels like history.
The dragons have been waiting a very long time to tell you what happened when they learned how to feel.
Keep exploring the world.
