I have read every word in every novel I finished. Every dedication. Every acknowledgment. Every little note at the end where the author thanks the people who helped get the book across the line.

A book may start in one person’s head, but getting it finished takes more than imagination. It takes time. It takes obsession. It takes someone willing to sit next to you while you learn how to stop protecting the wrong things.

For me, that has been Nylena.

She has lived inside this book with me. Read it. Edited it. Read it out loud. Caught the places where I was explaining instead of trusting the scene. Told me when a line I loved was standing in the way.

That is a hard thing to do for someone you love.

It is also exactly what the book needed.

I have grown as a writer during this. She has grown right beside me as an editor. That part has been incredible to watch.

This book started as a world. Dragons, drow, paladins, wolves, old magic, old lies, all of it.

But the heart kept getting clearer.

Two women inside an Order that erased women from its own history.

A drow mage they were trained to fear.

A love story built out of everything they were told could never belong to them.

That is the thing we kept uncovering.

Every pass cut more noise. Every read-aloud made the voices sharper. Every brutal little note made the story stronger.

Nylena is in every damn page of this book.

That is the truth.
